Which Fireplace is Better?

If you’ve always wanted a fireplace but weren’t sure where to start, we’ve got you covered with this informative article! Let’s start with the basics.

The four main types of fireplaces are: gas, electric, wood and those that burn alternative fuels like pellets. Each of these add to property value and there’s a good chance that at least one will be a perfect fit for your home. Today, we’ll be taking a look at gas, electric, and wood fireplaces.

GAS

Natural gas is the way to go if you want to spend less time cleaning your fireplace and more time enjoying it. These fireplaces come in vented or ventless configurations and are powered by the natural gas in your home so they don’t require wood. Vented gas fireplaces require a flue or ductwork for external venting, but ventless can be installed virtually anywhere.

ELECTRIC

Electric fireplaces are the most versatile of the bunch. Need to save space? You can have this fireplace mounted on a wall. Not afraid of a larger piece? Place an electric fireplace complete with a mantle against a wall and it will be the star of the room. Again, there’s no need for firewood with these fireplaces and apart from a little extra on your electric bill, they’re fairly inexpensive.

WOOD

Going back to basics, we have the wood fireplace. These come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and configurations but the ones we’ll be talking about are: wood stoves and inserts. If you’re looking to upgrade, you can close off the firebox with an insert of steel or cast iron to draft-proof your existing fireplace. Or, if you’re looking for a space saver, a free-standing wood stove could fit comfortably into the corner of the room. These fireplaces require a little more maintenance than the others but they’re well worth it!
