Choosing Insulation

If you’re planning on building a home or updating an existing space, you might be starting the process of choosing insulation. There are lots to choose from and we’re here today to help you make the best informed choice you can. Below, we break down the most popular types.

Spray Foam

This expanding foam is best suited for oddly shaped areas or where pipes or wires enter the house. For more delicate places (around windows), we recommended using non-expanding or low-expansion foam from a nozzle that is tightly controlled.

Foam Board

This rigid panel is one of the most common types used. It’s best for floors or basement walls but it can be used just about anywhere. This is a great choice for those of you who live in colder climates.

Insulation Batts

This is a type of insulation blanket (made of fiberglass that is cut into section) is best suited for unfinished walls, floors or ceilings and has been designed for easy handling. Of all the insulation types, it’s also the most affordable option.

Insulation Rolls

Similar to batts, this type of insulation is typically used between wall and ceiling framing. Unlike batts, rolling insulation offers less opportunity for gaps. If you need to cover a large amount of space, this might be your best bet.
