Avoid These Kitchen Remodeling Mistakes

Tomorrow, March 20th, is the first day of Spring. It’s a time of new beginnings and if last year taught us anything, it was that we all could use a fresh start. If you’ve been planning on renovating and are looking to begin, we suggest checking out this article here that we wrote on how to get through a stress-free renovation as well as this one here. We also invite you to keep reading as we give you a list of kitchen remodeling mistakes to avoid.

Choose Appliances First

When remodeling a kitchen, the most important assets are the appliances. These will give your room functionality and knowing your appliances will greatly influence the style later on. Be conscious of the colors. Is there too much stainless steel? Will this make the room feel cold and uninviting? All of this style prep starts with appliances.

Consult a Design Professional

With your appliances in mind, now would be a great time to consult a design professional. This person will remind you of the big picture and help you balance the many jobs that come with designing a kitchen. While you may have your own ideas on what the wall, cabinet, floor, hardware and backsplash colors should be, it’s always nice to have help!

Functionality Comes First

It can be easy to get caught up in all of the aesthetic choices going into a newly designed kitchen but always remember: functionality comes first. Take note of how many outlets you might need in your coffee corner. Should the trash be hidden in a cabinet with a track or in a stand up bin beside the fridge? What about lighting? Are there ample lights near the stove and island? Every little decision is of great importance when it comes to your dream kitchen. Make sure to keep this in mind when designing.

Storage

Perhaps one of the most important things to consider is storage. Would a pantry best suit you or deep cabinets? Does your design plan include an island with drawers or do you prefer open shelving? Storage doesn’t have to be unseen. Open shelves are a great way to display china and other pieces that make a statement. Whatever your preference, just be sure not to skimp on the extra space! Your future self will be thankful!
