Remodeling Process (Step-By-Step)
Whether you’re deep into the remodeling process or you’re just beginning, we’re here to help. Renovating your home is much more cost-effective than moving and today, we’ll be talking about how to go about it. (This is a companion piece to our blog post about keeping stress to a minimum during the remodeling process, so be sure to check that post out after you’ve read this one!)
Without further ado, let’s dive in. The steps to remodeling are as follows:
Pre-Design Consultation
In this early stage of renovation, you’ll go over your budget, wants, and timeline with your contractor. In turn, they’ll show you a portfolio of what they can do (if you haven’t already looked at their work) and estimate construction costs. At the end, you may be asked to sign a design agreement and a Project Manager will be assigned to your renovation. They’ll help immensely when it comes to staying on budget.
Measurements
After the Pre-Design consultation, your contractor will want to take measurements for the conceptual design portion of the remodel as well as look at the building structure and mechanical systems of your home. Once this information has been gathered, they’ll prepare a rough design.
Design Consultation
This is when everything starts coming together! Your contractor will present you with the rough design and this is your chance to alter and discuss your remodel in depth. Keep in mind, this process will go a lot smoother if you have an idea about what appliances and furnishings you want incorporated into the design.
Pre-Construction Conference
Once the revisions have been implemented, it will be time to discuss the final design. In this conference, your project manager and contractor will go over total pricing and the renovation timeline. They will also begin securing building permits and gathering the materials necessary to begin renovations.
Construction
It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for! Construction can now officially begin. Your project manager will serve as the main point of contact as the renovation process begins. They’ll make sure to keep within your budget and adhere to the timeline discussed during previous consultations.
